See, flying in small planes doesn't bother me, but....
We get to the airport in La Fontana, high in the mountains near a volcano, an active volcano, on a rainy morning for our flight to Quepos. Now, the dirt airstrip doesn't phase me, but the sign from a local farmer makes me pause...."a $7 fee, per person, per flight, will be charged for flying over the farmers pasture and removing cows from runway". I admit to being a gringo, though it's not my fault, but cows on the runway seem a little strange anywhere. The pilot says they almost never have to buzz the strip anymore. I'm overflowing with confidence now.
The cows were entertaining someone else so our flight was uneventfull into San Jose.
Short flight to Quepos from San Jose, 20 minutes. A word on the airline system here. There are 2 in country regional airlines, they both are headquartered near San Jose. They fly to many places in country, but all flights come through SJ, which is about 30-35 minutes from anywhere.
I video'd landing in Quepos because...well just because. How many times do you land in the middle of an oil palm plantation? First for me. Kinda fun seeing palms 30' off our wingtips. These pilots are good.
Quepos and Miguel Antonio National Park. Then a road trip to Dominical and Uvita to check on surf town Costa Rica and a friend's land. Pura Vida*
